Letter of Appreciation to Amnesty International
September 7, 2006
For Amnesty International Members --
Sgt. Kevin Benderman was released from confinement at the Ft. Lewis RCF on August 18, 2006.
Kevin and Monica would like to thank you all for the tremendous support you have given to them throughout the past two years. This has been an amazing experience - difficult, challenging, frustrating yet quite rewarding and enlightening.
Peace is a lofty goal, but it is attainable. Peace comes from within - and it comes from knowing that we have struggled against ferocious obstacles and found a way around them all, refusing to back down from who we are or what we stand for.
Peace exists in this world - even now -- it is with those who have faced the struggle without backing down, who leave the chaos at the door when they step inside what they know to be home and enjoy the comfort of relationships with those who share a respect for life, love and humanity - having walked through fire to defend them.
It will be up to those with relationships of Peace to work together to help people who still walk through chaos every day of their lives -- to show by their actions that the struggle is worth it, and while the journey to Peace is a solo journey, there will always be caring hearts on the sidelines to keep the travelers moving forward, the only direction worth going.
In the months to come, Kevin and Monica will be speaking publicly about their experiences, and about their beliefs regarding war, justice and working toward Peace.
They look forward to working with everyone who has helped build the foundations for Peace that they were able to walk on. They look forward to adding their own perspectives and learning more from others along the way.
THANK YOU for your support - you have made a difference and it is appreciated.
