Featuring
Kevin and Monica Benderman
US Army Sergeant Kevin Benderman is a two-time
enlistee. After serving a term in Iraq, Benderman concluded
that "war is the destroyer of everything that is good
in the world," and applied to the Army for conscientious
objector status. The Army has responded by denying his application
and charging him with desertion. His trial begins May 11.
Monica Benderman, Kevin's wife, is his chief supporter and
partner in this process. For more information, or to make
a donation to the Benderman Defense Fund: www.bendermandefense.org.
Jeff Paterson
Jeff Paterson, National Staff Member, Not
in Our Name, is a former Marine Corporal who was the first
publicly known 1990 Gulf War resister. After holding a press
conference to protest the coming war in August 1990, Jeff
sat on the runway to resist deployment to the Middle East
after the military rejected his bid for a conscientious
objection discharge. One hundred other military resisters
would eventually be imprisoned for their opposition to the
war.
William K. Bruff (Discussant)
William K. Bruff, Ph.D., is Associate Vice
President of Academic Affairs, Saybrook Graduate School
and Research Center. A Quaker and conscientious objector,
he refused to register for the draft during the Vietnam
era.

An
Alternative to Those Yellow "Support Our Troops" Ribbons

Can
one care strongly about the well-being of the men and women in
the deadly combat zones of Iraq while being strongly opposed to
the war they are being forced to fight? You bet.
For the 53
percent of Americans who believe the war in Iraq was not worth
fighting in the first place, the Pro-soldier, Anti-war
message is an alternative to those ubiquitous yellow ribbons.
To
purchase Pro-Soldier, Anti-War buttons for $2.00 (plus S/H) from
